Mímir™
Mímir is a turnkey solution for one-way Internet over satellite providers. Mímir includes all important head-end features that cannot be found in typical COTS teleport equippment.
User Management
Mímir let the operator configure and manage users, end-user terminals, and different types of accounts and services.
Protocol Acceleration
The long distance to geostationary satellite has the effect that it takes 250 ms for a signal to travel to the satellite and back to earth. The TCP/IP protocol is not designed for such a long latency and this will effect the possible maximum throughput. Mímir solves this by splitting the communication link, first in the teleport and secondly in the client modem, and using optimized protocols for the jump over the satellite.
Security
The Mímir server allows secure authentication at login time from the user of certificates. The certificates are installed in the factory and simplifies username and password management.
Billing
A simple billing system is integrated into the Mímir operator interface. Operators who want to integrate with existing third-party billing system can in most cases do this fairly simple as the standardized Radius API is used to store billing data.
Web Cache
To improve latency and minimize traffic on the Internet backbone a web cache stores the most accessed web pages.
Simple Installation
The Mímir server can typically be installed in a teleport in less than one day with on-site or remote installation support. To make deployment even easier the ForsONEway system is in many cases bundled with the integrated encapsulator/modulator ODG-200 from GCS that integrates very well with the Mímir and works well with one-way services. The Mímir server can manage parts of the configuration of the ODG-200.
