Forsway's satellite modems is of the one-way type. This means that a satellite link is used for data transmissions to the user, while a land-based return channel is used for traffic to Internet.

The main advantage of a one-way satellite modem over a two-way is that it is possible to use existing equipment (satellite dish, LNB, cables), supporting both television and Internet over satellite. This makes the installation really simple, connect the satellite modem to the coaxial cable from the satellite dish and a computer and everything is ready. The other great advantage is that the cost of both satellite modem and equipment (i.e. LNB) are much lower than for a two-way connection.

The disadvantage of a one-way connection is the requirement of a landline connection, making it necessary to have an additional connection and service provider. We have for this reason tried to create as much flexibility as possible by offering different solutions for the return channel (ISDN, PSTN, GPRS/EDGE).

The satellite modems are using either a proxy or a VPN connection. A more thorough explanation can be found in the menu to the left.
